New identity for The Danish Association of Masters and PhD's

My bachelor assignment evolved around a new identity and communication-plan for The Danish Association of Masters and PhD's (Magisterforeningen). The association is a union for university educated workers.
The main focus of the identity / communication-plan was to position Magisterforeningen as the eco-friendly, caring and emotional alternative to it's to nearest competitors DJØF and IDA – two other danish unions for university educated workers.
Therefore i chose a stylistic heart as the logo. The heart is divided into two and is in strong red and orange colors to symbolize emotions and the will to fight for better rights.
For the logotype I chose the rounded brushy serif-typeface Dolly by Underware (yes, I'm a fan!). Dolly is perfect because of it's references to humanistic book typefaces - university and books go well together! In the identity it's also used as SmallCaps to further strenghten the link to book-design and to convey this solid and trustworthy feeling that you have to have towards your union.
The tagline of the logo is 'Overskud til Fællesskab'. Roughly translated it says something like 'surplus/energy to care for all/the community'. If you had to make a usable english tagline it would just be 'care for all'.
Apart from the basics of an identity and a thorough design-manual, we also had to apply the identity to various elements like f.ex. a magazine, a website and an exhibition stand. Hovedfokus for kommunikationsplanen var at positionere Magisterforeningen som det økologiske, samfundsbevidste og emotionelle alternativ til konkurrenterne DJØF og IDA.
Jeg valgte derfor et stiliseret hjerte som logo. Hjertet er delt i to og er i stærke farver for at signalere følelser og viljen til faglig kamp.
Til logotypen valgte jeg den rundede og pensels-tegnede serrif-skrift Dolly fra Underware (ja, jeg er fan!). Dolly er perfekt på grund af dens referencer til de humanistiske bogtrykker-skrifter - og akademikere og bøger passer jo som bekendt godt sammen. I identiteten bliver den brugt i Smallcaps for yderligere at henvise til bogdesign, men også for at give den her solide og pålidelige følelse, som man gerne skal have omkring sin fagforening.
Taglinen, 'Overskud til Fællsskab' opsummerer hele tanken bag identiteten og trumfer konkurrenten IDA's tagline 'viden der styrker'.
Udover den basale identitet og en grundig design-manual, skulle vi også applikere identiteten ud på forskellige elementer som f.eks. et magasin, et website og en udstillingsstand.
